Default Artisan Crafting...TOO expensive

OK, hope this is the right place to post this, but I need to ask it. Will the cost of crafting something from an artisan ever be lowered? To craft a Steel Ingot you need:
10 Iron Ingots
1 Lump of Charcoal
200g

Currently, you can buy steel from the rare crafting materials traders for only 170g. It doesn't make sense that already, the artisan's 200g fee is 30g more than if you just bought from a trader, but when you also consider iron to be around 10g per and lumps (maybe 50?), if you wanted to use the artisans, for steel at least, it would cost you twice as much as a merchant sells it for.
I doubt many have ever considered changing it, it's just been one of those small things forgotten about, but I for one would like a change. Just bringing it to people's attention.

that's just tough luck thanks to the fluctuation of the rare material traders. You can't change it so that the artisans will always make it cheaper to craft it than to buy it. Trust me, people are just waiting to exploit the trade market. It happened with vials of ink, that's why they sell really cheaply now.

The artisans have *never* crafted silk as far as I'm aware. Along comes Factions and a lot more armors require silk. Silk has never been worth more than 120 on the resources trader, yet when it was added to the artisan's listings... it's 200 gold plus materials.

The traders arn't there to always be a cheap alternative. They are there to keep prices in check. For example, the Silk that Cymmina mentioned, they added a silk artisan because silk was going to be in more demand. More demand means the price will increase. Since there is now an artisan, the price of silk will not go much higher than what it can be crafted for, otherwise, people would stop buying from the merchant and start crafting. Many would craft, just to sell back to the merchant. Since the merchant would be getting more silk than it is selling, the price would go down.

If they made the artisans cheaper, then the materials would become cheaper to the point that it would once again be cheaper to buy from the traders than the Artisans. This cycle would continue untill the rare materials hit the bottom of the games allowable price range, making materials virtually worthless.

Sounds good to me.... Seriously, materials were a nice gimmick, but now they are just annoying.

i understand that the arisans are there to keep prices in check but some are just rediculous. They do need to do a recheck on their prices and make them a little lower. not lower than trader neccesarily, but lower. and in prophesies i always thought that the artisans WERE there to be cheaper, since most were semi-hard to find. now theyre like right outside of cities and crap.

A 100-200 gold crafting cost plus materials arn't keeping anything in check. Expecially when materials like coal are only good for crafting into steel, and making coal cost more than buying it, and no one will craft coal because it cost more to craft the coal to craft steel with.

It is a nice way to limit the inflation of certain materials, but obviously, they should be reasonably priced compared to how valuable the material is. 100 and 200 gold for a worthless crafting material isn't a safeguard, it is simply crappy.

hmmm, some one don't know thier crafting materials. Coal can be used to craft deldrimour steal ingots.
Crafting mats for Deldrimour ingots:
10 Iron Ingots, 5 Piles of Glittering Dust, 1 Lump of Charcoal and 200 gold.

Current avg price of deldrimour ingots are 800gp. Iron, charcoal and dust can all be farmed. Or you could simply buy the mats from trader and still make the stuff cheaper then buying it from trader. For rare mats like steal yeah, it does seem kinda funny that you can buy it cheaper then get it from the trader but that's how the economy works. If anet lowered artisans cost for these mats then they really wouldn't be all that much more then common mats, so what would the point in having rare mats be then?
